Chinatown Remixed presented its 8th annual art festival in Ottawa’s Chinatown. This month-long free art festival kicked off with a Vernissage day on Sept. 24th and ran until Oct. 29th at various locations on Somerset Street West, between Bay St. and Preston St.
Chinatown Remixed features visual art, sculpture and performances presented in unconventional spaces such as restaurants, medical offices, hair salons, grocery stores and alleyways. The festival celebrates the uniqueness of Chinatown, one of Ottawa’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, by bringing together both businesses and artists.
Festival highlights:
- artwork made from old surfboards and burnt cedar by Nate Nettleton — Double Happiness BBQ Shop
- a group collage show by Kristina Corre — Little Latin America
- sketches of Chinatown businesses by Colin White — Chinatown sidewalks
- a collaborative 3D wall piece by three members of the Blink Art Collective — see if you can find it!
Vernissage day highlights:
- live performances and Dj’s — Shanghai restaurant parking lot
- Live painting by Artist Mique Michelle — Bar Robo sidewalk
- a performance by local singer/songwriter May-Jun Li — follow the beautiful sounds
“We love Remixed!”, stated ChinaDoll “It’s a wonderful month of local creativity that brings so many diverse people to Chinatown”.
