Event Description:

Economic Booster
Ottawa Chinatown is traditionally the cultural hub where a variety of cultures blends and grow. To enhance Chinatown’s attractiveness as a Multicultural Village with an Asian Flavour, and to bring more foot traffic to the neighbourhood and ultimately to help the community to regain its vibrancy, Somerset Street Chinatown BIA is proposing to host Ottawa Chinatown Bazaar, which will be another signature event of our community.

Helping Local Businesses and Families
In support of the “Buy Local” initiative, Chinatown Bazaar will only accept vendors from Ottawa, and the goods sold will include crafts, artwork, jams, cookies, clothing, jewelry, home goods, souvenirs, flowers, and seasonal products. No products that contain alcohol or cannabis will be allowed at Chinatown Bazaar. No food preparation will be allowed on site.

A Not-for-Profit Event Host
Chinatown BIA, as the event host, owns the brand name of Chinatown Bazaar, and will provide necessary support to the organizer. Chinatown BIA seeks no financial gains from Chinatown Bazaar. The event will be organized by a third party, who will be responsible for the operations of Chinatown Bazaar.

Benefiting Other Chinatown Businesses
It is estimated that Chinatown Bazaar will bring more than 10,000 visitors to Chinatown. Once fully established, Chinatown Bazaar will be a signature Chinatown event where local residents, tourists and business owners gather on Saturdays. It is our intent to encourage visitors to Chinatown Bazaar to explore the businesses in Chinatown while they are at the Bazaar.

Giving Back to the Society
Chinatown BIA will encourage vendors to donate some of their goods to Ottawa CHEO and / or other charities. Moreover, Chinatown BIA will sponsor at least one free both for charities or not-for-profit organizations at each and every Chinatown Bazaar event.

A: All-ages are welcome.

Q: Where to buy a ticket?
A: It is all free to enter.

Q: What is sold at the Chinatown Bazaar?
A: Almost anything that you’d like to sell, except for cannabis products. Food and beverages must be produced in a commercial kitchen and pre-packaged. No on-site cooking is permitted.

Q: Where is the Ottawa Chinatown Bazaar?

Q: How can I access the event by public transit?

A: NO. It is an alcohol free event. You will find many fully licensed restaurants on the street, including Spark Beer, Chinatown’s local brewery.
