Located in the heart of Ottawa’s Chinatown, this public monument honours the 17,000 Chinese workers who helped build the Canadian Pacific Railway between 1880 and 1885. Despite facing harsh working conditions and systemic discrimination, their resilience and sacrifice helped unite the country and shaped Canada’s history.
Created by artists Chang Shi and Chang Yi, and supported by the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario, the sculpture features a base shaped like a map of Canada, railway tracks forming the Chinese character “人” (human), and two figures symbolizing suffering and strength.

Situé au cœur du quartier chinois d’Ottawa, ce monument public rend hommage aux 17 000 travailleurs chinois qui ont contribué à la construction du chemin de fer Canadien Pacifique entre 1880 et 1885. Malgré des conditions difficiles et la discrimination, leur courage et leurs sacrifices ont contribué à l’unification du pays et ont marqué l’histoire du Canada.
Conçue par les artistes Chang Shi et Chang Yi, avec le soutien du gouvernement du Canada par l’entremise de FedDev Ontario, la sculpture repose sur une base en forme de carte du Canada, avec des rails représentant le caractère chinois « 人 » (humain), et deux figures symbolisant la souffrance et la force.
华裔铁路工人纪念雕塑
本雕塑位于渥太华唐人街核心地段，旨在纪念1880至1885年间参与建设加拿大太平洋铁路的17,000名华工。他们在艰苦环境与种族歧视中坚持不懈，用牺牲和毅力铺就了连接国家东西的铁道，深刻影响了加拿大的发展进程。
雕塑由艺术家常诗与常怡姐妹创作，加拿大联邦政府通过FedDev Ontario资助。底座为加拿大地图造型，铁轨组成“人”字，象征“人定胜天”，两位人物雕像分别代表“辛苦”与“力量”。
